Accessibility statement

An accessible NDIS directory, that is the whole point.

Last reviewed: May 2026.

Supportd serves NDIS participants, many of whom rely on assistive technology. We treat accessibility as a core requirement, not an afterthought. If something is not working for you, tell us and we will fix it.

Our commitment

Supportd is working toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. WCAG 2.1 AA is the standard adopted by the Australian Government Digital Service Standard and is the level we aim for across the platform. We are honest that we are a new platform and parts of the site are still being audited. The list below is what is in place today and what we are still working on.

What is in place today

  • A site-wide skip-to-content link that jumps past the navigation on every page.
  • Semantic HTML across all pages, with proper landmarks (header, nav, main, footer).
  • Labelled navigation regions: Primary navigation, Footer participants links, Footer providers links, Footer top services, Footer top suburbs, Footer legal and company links.
  • Real button and link elements rather than clickable divs.
  • Keyboard navigation. The Escape key closes mobile menus, filter drawers, the provider enquiry modal and the photo lightbox.
  • A visible focus ring on every interactive element via :focus-visible, with a brighter colour over the dark forest backgrounds for legibility.
  • Focus trapping inside the provider enquiry modal and photo lightbox, with focus returned to the trigger when the dialog closes.
  • aria-label support on icon-only buttons across the directory and dashboard.
  • A clear heading hierarchy (h1 then h2 then h3) on every page.
  • Alt text on provider logos in the form "Logo of [business name]" and meaningful alt text on content images.
  • Resizable text. Layouts hold up at 200% browser zoom.
  • Form labels associated with inputs via htmlFor and id, plus aria-required on required fields and aria-live on inline error banners so screen readers announce validation failures.
  • High contrast typography on the cream and dark green surfaces, with muted body text now at .72 alpha (approximately 4.6 to 1) instead of the previous .5.
  • Reduced motion support across the site via prefers-reduced-motion. Auto-rotating carousels, count-up animations and CSS transitions all opt out for users who prefer no motion.
  • Mobile-first design with 16px minimum body text and 44px minimum tap targets.

What we are still working on

  • A formal colour contrast audit across all secondary surfaces and decorative chrome.
  • Documented screen reader testing notes for VoiceOver iOS, VoiceOver macOS and NVDA Windows. Targets are set, systematic per-page tests are ongoing.
  • Continued audits on dynamic states (loading skeletons, toast notifications, async error pages) to confirm announcements remain clean.

Compatibility

Supportd is tested against the latest two versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge on desktop, plus iOS Safari and Android Chrome on mobile.

The platform is built using semantic HTML and progressive enhancement. Most pages work with JavaScript disabled, although interactive features like the directory filters and the dashboard require JavaScript.
