What is Assistive Technology (AT)?
In plain English
Equipment or devices that help you do things you would otherwise struggle with. Wheelchairs, communication devices, modified vehicles and home aids all fall under AT.
Assistive technology is any equipment or device that helps you do something your disability makes difficult. It ranges from simple low cost items like a shower stool through to powered wheelchairs, communication devices and vehicle modifications. Higher cost AT usually needs an assessment and a quote before the NDIA will fund it. The goal of AT is always greater independence and safety in daily life.
