What is Supported Decision Making?
In plain English
An approach where a person with disability is supported to make their own choices, rather than having someone else decide for them.
Supported decision making is an approach where a person with disability is helped to make their own choices, rather than having someone decide for them. The support might be plain language information, more time, or a trusted person talking the options through. It respects the person right to direct their own life. It is the preferred approach wherever possible, even where a person needs significant support.
