NDIS support coordination changes: the new support coordination and connection service
By the Supportd team · Checked against official sources on 14 October 2026
The short answer
From 1 July 2028 a new support coordination and connection service begins. You will no longer pay for support coordination from your NDIS plan. Instead you will choose from providers funded directly to deliver it. Until then, support coordination works as it does now.
What is changing
The NDIA will set up a new support coordination and connection service. Providers will be funded directly to deliver it, and participants will choose from a list of those providers rather than paying from their plan. Participants will be supported to move across. Consultation on the design ran from 7 September to 2 October 2026.
Until July 2028
- Support coordination continues to be funded in plans as it is today
- Support coordination price limits were held at their previous rates for 2026/27
- Mandatory registration for support coordinators has been paused while this reform is designed
- Since 27 August 2026 support coordinators cannot request unscheduled reassessments on a participant's behalf. Only the participant, nominee or guardian can
For support coordinators
The commissioning model means fewer, directly funded providers. Independent coordinators should follow the design closely and think about how they would meet commissioning requirements. Strong local provider networks, the thing that makes a coordinator valuable today, will still matter.
What to do now
- Participants: keep using your coordinator. Nothing changes until July 2028.
- Coordinators: follow the commissioning design and keep your local provider list current.
