How we list and check providers

Families should know exactly how a directory works before they trust it. Here is how providers get onto Supportd, what we check, and which spots on a page are paid for.

The short answer

Supportd is paid for by providers, never by families. Providers pay a flat subscription to be listed, with no commission. Registration and badges are declared by providers, we share each free match request with up to 3 providers who fit, and families choose who to go ahead with. Paid placements are shown above standard listings and are always labelled.

How providers join

Providers list themselves by signing up and paying a monthly or yearly subscription. There are two plans: Growth, our standard listing, and Premium, which adds a more prominent spot and priority in matching. Registered providers, unregistered providers, independent support workers and aged care at home providers can all join.

A small number of providers were listed free while Supportd was starting out. We no longer offer free listings. Providers can cancel any time from their dashboard, and there is no lock in.

What we check

  • ABN. When a provider gives an ABN at sign up, we check it is in the valid Australian Business Number format.
  • NDIS registration. Whether a provider is NDIS registered is declared by the provider. We may check it against the public NDIS Commission Provider Register.
  • Support at Home approval. Whether a provider is an approved Support at Home provider is declared by the provider. We may check it against the government provider register.
  • Verification badges. Badges such as Police Check, NDIS Worker Screening Check, Working with Children Check and First Aid are self declared. By choosing a badge, the provider confirms they hold it. We do not see the documents.

Providers agree in our terms that everything on their profile is accurate, and giving false registration or verification details is a serious breach. If we find something that does not match, or someone reports it, we may pause or remove the listing. Always ask a provider to show you their registration and checks before support starts.

We are a directory, not a regulator. We do not assess the quality of anyone's care or set their prices. The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission and the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission regulate providers. Our guide to choosing a provider has the questions worth asking.

How matching works

Anyone can ask for a free match. Every request is checked by a person before it goes to providers, and we look for providers who fit: the service, the area, whether it is NDIS or aged care, and any preferences you share, such as language or the gender of the worker.

We share your request with up to 3 providers who fit, and they contact you. You choose who to go ahead with, or no one at all. There is no obligation and no cost to you.

Only providers with a current subscription are matched. Where several providers fit, Premium providers get priority in matching over standard listings who fit just as well. A provider who does not fit is never sent your request because they pay more.

How pages are ordered

On our suburb, city and service pages, providers are shown in this order:

  • Featured spots (labelled Featured). A provider can pay to pin their listing to the top of one page. There are at most 2 on any page.
  • Premium listings (labelled Premium).
  • Growth listings.
  • Other listings, including the early free listings.
  • Providers whose subscription has ended, at the bottom. Their profiles say they are not currently taking enquiries on Supportd.

Featured spots and Premium listings are paid placements. They are shown above standard listings because the provider pays for that, not because we have rated them higher. Providers on the same plan take turns at the top, and the order changes each day.

How we make money

Only from provider subscriptions and optional paid extras such as featured spots. We never take a commission, a fee per lead or a cut of anyone's NDIS plan or Support at Home budget. Families never pay us anything. Supportd is an Australian business, ABN 51 635 510 367.

Reviews

We publish every review, good or bad, unless it is abusive, fake, or shares someone's private details. We do not remove a review because a provider does not like it, and providers cannot pay to have a review removed or moved.

Report a problem

If a listing looks wrong, a provider is not who they say they are, or something on this site is out of date, email info@supportd.com.au or use our contact form. We read every report, and we may pause a listing while we look into it.

If you are worried about the safety or quality of care, contact the regulator as well. NDIS: the NDIS Commission on 1800 035 544. Aged care: the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission on 1800 951 822. If someone is in immediate danger, call 000.
