What registration groups do
When you apply to register with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, you choose the registration groups that cover the supports you want to deliver. The Commission uses them to send you an initial scope of audit, which tells you which type of audit you need and which NDIS Practice Standards you will be audited against.
Registration groups also appear in the NDIS support catalogue. The middle part of every support item number is its registration group, so 01_011_0107_1_1 sits in group 0107.
Groups and audits
If every group you choose is lower risk, you need a verification audit, a desktop review. If even one is higher risk or more complex, such as daily personal activities, high intensity supports, specialist behaviour support or SIL, you need a certification audit with an onsite stage. Some groups also bring supplementary modules, for example the high intensity, specialist behaviour support, SDA, early childhood and SIL modules.
The registration groups
These are the groups used in the 2026/27 support catalogue, plus the new digital platform group:

The new groups for 2026
From 1 July 2026, SIL providers and NDIS digital platforms must be registered. Group 0137 covers providing an NDIS digital platform service, where a platform connects participants with workers and processes payments from their NDIS plans. Group 0138 covers assistance with supported independent living, and comes with new SIL Practice Standards.
Unregistered providers already delivering SIL had to apply for 0138 before 1 October 2026 to keep delivering it while their application is assessed.
Groups that must be registered
Most supports can be delivered by unregistered providers to self managed and plan managed participants. Registration is required for SDA, specialist behaviour support, plan management, SIL and NDIS digital platforms, for anyone using regulated restrictive practices, and for supporting NDIA managed participants. From 1 July 2027, mandatory registration starts expanding to other higher risk supports, such as personal care and daily living supports.
Are registration groups being replaced?
The government is moving towards a more risk proportionate model of regulation, where the level of oversight matches the risk of the support. How supports will be grouped under that model, and exactly which supports are in scope for mandatory registration, is still being worked out. For now, registration groups remain the basis of applications, audits and the Provider Register.
Choosing your groups
- Look up the support items you will claim in the support catalogue, and note their registration groups
- Only add groups you will actually deliver soon. Each one can widen your audit and its cost
- You can add groups later, but it may need an out of cycle audit
- List your registration groups clearly in your marketing, because participants and coordinators check them
